Today we visited the amazing Katherine Gorge and had a cruise to see the rocks and grandeur of the gorge close-up. After the cruise we swam in the Katherine Hot Springs and visited the Katherine Museum.  Again, a great day in the Top End!

   A deeper connection to my great-grandpa by Kenzie King My favourite part of the trip was being able to develop a deeper connection to my great-grandpa Aza Lenden King. It was extremely special to be a 2022 Premier’s Anzac Spirit Prize Awardee after telling Aza’s story and ending up travelling to Darwin to visit some of the places he served in during WWII. I had also never been to Darwin before, so this was a new experience for me. Aza witnessed the first plane to be shot down, a US Kitty Hawk, during the bombing of Darwin in 1942, which was surreal as we went to Darwin Harbour and were lucky enough to go on a Darwin Bombing Cruise. Touring around the harbour and learning exactly where it all happened, was a unique and one-of-a-kind experience I will never forget. It allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of what it was like for Aza and others serving at the time in Darwin, which was extremely special. Listening to Bob inspired me in so many ways

  I gained a new understanding of the sacrifices made  By Ebony McHugh On Friday the 23 rd of April we left Katherine on a very long and enjoyable bus ride to the Adelaide River War Cemetery where we commemorated the service by not only soldiers, but of the local people during the bombing of Darwin. Being able to commemorate the service of Albert Victor Leske Schulz made the involvement so much more meaningful. I gained a new understanding of the sacrifices made by soldiers. I found that listening to Bob talk about ‘we shall remember them’ inspired me in so many ways. Laying a small, hand collected bunch of flowers and standing by the grave of Schulz, I had a moment to myself where I reflected on everyone who has sacrificed their family lives and themselves during any war. It put a lot of things happening now in my life into a much better perspective and visiting the cemetery changed the way I view service  military personnel,  past and present. This trip has be...

April has not happened but all is go for October!

  Still waiting for Darwin Study Tour but it will happen!! Unfortunately, we needed to cancel the April trip because of COVID considerations. Whilst incredibly disappointing, the good news is that the trip has been re-scheduled for 1-11 October this year.  The itinerary has been completed and booked with only a few changes. The main reason for the changes is that we do not now have Anzac Day commitments in Darwin, and as a result we can spend more time adventuring in Kakadu and Arnhem Land. The new trip looks fantastic and we now have to wait another 6 month before the group finally has the trip to share and learn from.  Whilst it has been a long wait, the staff are determined that this will be a great trip for you all. We will probably meet as a group before October because in June a new group of Premier Anzac Spirit School Prize awardees will be announced and presented with their medallions and certificates - you will all be invited to that ceremony if it is held before...
