The June reception for the 2020 group upon their return from Darwin

 


On 25 June, 2021 the 2020 Premier's Anzac Spirit School Prize students gathered at the Drill Hall in Anzac House to celebrate the success of the trip to Darwin and the Top End and to share their observations and experiences with special guests and parents who were invited to the reception. 

The reception was addressed by Ms Susan Cameron, Executive Director of Curriculum and Learning in the Education Department and Ms Cheryl Cates, RSL SA President. 

We are proud to say that all the students addressed the reception and shared their wonderful observations of the trip. They all did a great job. 

Bob Kearney also addressed the reception and shared his usual amazing thoughts and philosophies with the audience. Always a pleasure to hear Bob - his contribution to this group has been amazing.

  The Plane That Started It All By Makayla Lockwood   During this trip, one moment where I felt like I pieced together a major part of the story in relation to the Bombing of Darwin was whilst we were at the Darwin Aviation Museum. Hajime Toyoshima was the man who led the bombing squadron against Darwin on the fateful 19 th February 1942. He was also the man who led the raid on Perl Harbour less than a year before. His plane caught my attention, because without him and his plane leading the squadrons of Japanese pilots, there wouldn’t have been an attack that day. Getting ready to go to Darwin

  Getting ready to head-off to Darwin and surrounds on 16 Apri l After a few false starts and the disappointment of the study tour to France being cancelled because of the pandemic, the 2020 Premier's Anzac Spirit School Prize students are finally approved to travel to Darwin and the Top End of the Northern Territory during April this year.   The historical focus is learning about and commemoration of the Bombing of Darwin during World War 2.  As you will see from the itinerary below, the study tour also has a strong cultural and geographical focus as the group travels from Darwin to Kakadu, to Katherine and then onto Litchfield National Park.  The trip is planned and the itinerary is as follows: Fri, 16 April 2021 0730 Depart Adelaide Airport (QF858) to Darwin. Arrive Darwin 1110. Overnight in Darwin at H on Smith Hotel Sat, 17 April 2021 Visit Darwin War Museum and tour of Darwin environs. Overnight in Darwin at H on Smit

The 2021 Premier's Anzac Spirit School Prize Award Ceremony

  The 2021 Premier's Anzac Spirit School Prize awardees with The Honourable Steven Marshall MP Premier of South Australia at the award ceremony on 3 September, 2021. The newly selected 2021 Premier's Anzac Spirit School Prize awardees were presented with their certificates and medallions by the Premier at a special award ceremony in the Drill Hall, Anzac House on 3 September, 2021. It was a great occasion for the 2021 awardees to meet the Premier and to celebrate their new status as recipients of a Premier's Anzac Spirit School Prize. These 20 students join 143 other young South Australians who have been awarded a Premier's Anzac Spirit School Prize since the inception of the prize in 2007. As well as being addressed by the Premier, the ceremony was also addressed by Ms Cheryl Cates, RSL SA President and five of the 2020  Premier's Anzac Spirit School Prize awardees.
